Do I have to wash gel or conditioner out of my hair before I dye it?

I know that it has to be totally dry but can I at least have leave in conditioner it while I'm dying it? I don't want to go outside today without putting SOMETHING in my hair. It's curly and wild so I have to style it some way.

Shouldn't have anything in it. the chemicals in the gel or conditioner could interact w/ the dye in ways you wouldn't expect leading to undesired colors.

It would be a good idea to wash it out, especially if there is gel in it. because if you get the dye to mix with the gel the dye won't be that bright because the dye will stick to the gel and wash out the dye and gel when washing your hair=)

No u can have products in your hair. The hair peroxide(the chemical that is mixed w/ hair color) will eat right thru whatever u have in your hair. It will not effect the color at all. Don't worry do whatever u normally do to style it .. .U will be fine.. I am a hairstylist so I know what I am talking about...... Gl with your color!

you will get better coverage if your hair is clean, and not coated. you should not wash your hair before coloring as it has a tendency to burn your scalp. if you l gel brush it out before you color. if your conditioner is applied after shampooing and rinsed as usual go ahead and colo r. it's always best to leave chemicals to pros.

No you want you hair to have nothing in it when you ye it also don't wash it that morning either. Both will help your hair take the color better.

Its actully best to color hair when it has not been washed for 2 to 3 days, because the hair will colorbetter. After you color it, rinse the color out (use the coldest water you can stand), shampoo it (but only if the instructions say too), then condition it (preferably a deep conditioner that you can keep on for a while (15 to 30 minutes) then rinse the conditioner out). Then put on your normal leave in conditioner. Do not blow dry. You can treat your hair as you normally do the next day.

If you wash and condition you hair before colorling, it will not absorb the color. Conitioner acts like a shield against the color.
